What is CBD?

CBD is a type of compound found in cannabis sativa called a cannabinoid. In fact, there are over 100 types of cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, with the most well-known being THC - the bit that gets you stoned.

However, and this is important; CBD is not psychoactive in the respect that it doesn’t cause a high feeling.

Not only that, the World Health Organization has recognised CBD as being safe, non-toxic and with very few side effects. Not all strains of cannabis contain high levels of CBD. This is much in part due to the dominance in the last 70 years of the recreational market, which prefers high-THC varieties.

But in the past, wild varieties of cannabis contained a more balanced cannabinoid profile, including CBD, and this is a trend that is returning. However industrial hemp, a low-THC/ high-CBD variety of cannabis sativa, is legal. Therefore, most of the CBD oils on the market are derived from hemp.

CBD oil has become very popular with people suffering from various health issues including

  • Chronic pain and inflammation
  • Arthritis
  • Sleep disorders and ..
  • Anxiety, stress, and depression
  • Skin conditions
  • Low appetite and poor metabolic function
  • Weaker immune system
  • Chronic diseases and cancer

CBD hemp oil has a number of uses and comes in many forms including capsules, tinctures, sublingual supplements, liquid oil, oil as a paste, sprays, salves, creams and in edible forms, such as candies or sweets. You can also inhale CBD oil from vapor-releasing pens, similar to the technology for e-cigarettes. This variety also provides a lot of controlled flexibility in terms of concentration, making CBD hemp oil useful and desirable for people of all ages, economic means, and personal needs. Choosing a product can often come down to a question of personal taste.

The Safe, Effective and Legal Implementation of Hemp Cannabinoids

We have completed certification by the International Center of Cannabinoid Therapy (ICCT) which provides us with the understanding of the benefits of cannabinoid-rich hemp oil, understanding of the legal ramifications of prescribing it, and have become educated as a respected hemp oil expert who understands proper dosing and other nuances of hemp oil use.

Deciphering what is evidence based vs. “fad driven” can be a very daunting task.  The ICCT certification training program provides the busy clinician a solid scientifically and clinically relevant understanding of how to employ HEMP with various health conditions.

We have been educated of clinical cases, dosing and have been provided with a better understanding  to help the community with HEMP therapeutics.
